The moth and the Moon, 1980's, 7cm X 10cm, etching

A fictional scene and a more atmospheric piece that came out of Stephen's early explorations and depictions of imaginary and more literary world. This goes beyond, but is still apart of the first series of etchings which drew from early experiences of Transcendental Meditation.
The piece is part of a private collection in Shorpshire, England and is much treasured.

website

Do visit our website at www.whittleetchings.com to see more etchings and watch the video of Stephen creating them. Laura did a great job of designing it and Darshan was the mastermind behind the programing.

Country Scenes Address Book

There are still some copies of Stephen's Country Scenes Address Book at alibris.com.
As written by their editor: In this address book, printed on 140gsm paper and with a real cloth spine, 22 of Stephen Whittle's etchings are reproduced in four-colour. Drawing on the British landscape for inspiration, his miniature etchings depict a range of country scenes, old thatched cottages, winding lanes framed by verdant hedgerows, at sunlit glades and cornfields dotted with poppies.

The Lock-Keeper's Cottage, 1980's, 18cm X 18cm, etching

From the same period as Winter Trees, this etching, titled The Lock-Keeper's Cottage was done after drawing inspiration from the fields of Cotswolds, England. It was this series of etchings which placed Stephen in the pastoral English tradition represented by the great Samuel Palmer, and later Robin Tanner, whom Stephen knew well and who gave him great encouragement.
